DK2 - Log Bear Works

DK2

23 Products

DK2, sold as Detail K2 and built by Marlon, makes towable property equipment that arrives ready to work behind whatever you already drive. We carry 23 DK2 machines across six categories, and almost all of them run Kohler Command PRO engines with a 3-year engine warranty.

The wood chippers are the deepest part of the range, eight models from a 3-inch 6.5HP towable up to the 5-inch OPC505AE with hydraulic auto-feed and electric start. In between sit the 6.25-inch cyclonic drum models and the 4-inch OPC524 with kinetic drum technology. Browse them all in Wood Chippers.

On the hauling side, seven single-axle utility and dump trailers run 4x6 up to 6x10 with 1,305 to 1,832 lb payloads, in powder-coated steel or hot-dipped galvanized, plus a poly ATV trailer for off-road work. Three powered dump carts cover 660 and 1,100 pounds in gas-tracked and electric-wheeled versions.

The rest of the lineup is the firewood and stump side: two towable stump grinders at 12 and 14-inch wheels, a 27-ton hydraulic log splitter, and the OPS240 kinetic splitter with a one-second cycle time, which is the fastest splitter we sell.

Why DK2

  • Kohler Command PRO Power: Commercial engines with a 3-year engine warranty across most of the range.
  • Towable by Design: Most machines pull behind an ATV, tractor or utility vehicle, so the tool goes to the work.
  • Six Categories, One Brand: Chippers, trailers, dump carts, stump grinders and splitters from a single supplier.
  • Entry to Mid Price: From 749 dollars for the ATV trailer up to 5,899 for the top chipper.

How to Choose DK2 Equipment

Four things worth checking before you order:

  • Chipper Capacity: 3 inches covers routine yard work, 4 to 5 inches handles storm cleanup, and 6.25 inches is production territory.
  • Towing Setup: Couplers differ across the range. Some models use a 2-inch ball, some a 1-7/8-inch ball, and the OPC513 uses a lawn tractor hitch pin. The chippers are rated for off-road property moves, not highway towing.
  • Trailer Finish: Hot-dipped galvanized if it lives outside or hauls wet material, powder-coated steel if it is stored under cover.
  • Electric Start: Worth it on the bigger 14HP machines if you start and stop often through a day.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does DK2 make?

DK2 covers more ground than most brands in this catalogue. The range spans towable wood chippers, stump grinders, log splitters, powered dump carts and dump utility trailers. The common thread is that these are homeowner and small-contractor machines built around Kohler engines and priced well below commercial equipment doing the same job.

Which DK2 wood chipper is right for me?

Capacity and start type are what you are choosing between. The OPC513 at $899 and the OPC503 at $1,249 are 3-inch machines on 6.5 and 7HP Kohler engines, which suits garden prunings and storm cleanup. The OPC524 steps up to 4-inch capacity. The 6.25-inch machines are where it gets serious: the OPC506 at $2,999 with recoil start, the OPC506E at $3,199 with electric start, and the OPC566E at $3,299 which adds a kinetic cyclonic drum. At the top the OPC505AE at $5,899 is the only hydraulic feed machine in the range, and it pulls limbs in under power instead of asking you to push. Full range in our wood chippers collection.

Is electric start worth the extra money on a DK2?

On the chippers it costs roughly $200, comparing the OPC506 at $2,999 to the OPC506E at $3,199. The honest answer is that it depends on your hands and your climate. A 14HP Kohler starts fine on the recoil when it is warm and well maintained. On a cold morning, or if you have any shoulder or wrist trouble, electric start turns a five-pull job into a button press. If you plan to run the machine a few times a year in good weather, save the money. If it will live outside and get used in the cold, take the electric start.

What is the DK2 OPS240 kinetic splitter, and how is it different from a hydraulic splitter?

A hydraulic splitter pushes the wedge through the wood under steady pump pressure. A kinetic splitter spins a heavy flywheel and dumps that stored energy into the ram at once, which is why the OPS240 cycles in about one second against the thirteen seconds of the hydraulic OPS227. For clean, straight-grained rounds that speed changes how much you get done in a day. For knotty or stringy wood a hydraulic machine can sit on the piece and keep pushing, where a kinetic machine either splits it on the strike or does not. Compare both in the kinetic and gas log splitter collections.

How do the DK2 dump carts differ from the dump trailers?

A dump cart is self-powered and goes where a truck cannot. The OPD813 at $3,199 runs a 7HP Kohler and carries 660 pounds, the OPD814 at $4,299 adds tracks and a 1,100 pound payload for soft or steep ground, and the OPD812 at $3,399 is battery powered with 8 to 10 hours of runtime and no engine noise. The MMT dump trailers are towed behind a vehicle and carry far more, from 1,305 pounds on the 4x6 up to 1,832 pounds on the 6x10, but they only go where you can drive. Buy a cart for moving material around a property, a trailer for hauling it off one.

What is the difference between the galvanized and plain steel DK2 trailers?

Hot-dipped galvanizing costs about $100 to $200 more, comparing the MMT4X6O at $1,399 to the MMT4X6OG at $1,499, or the MMT5X7-DUG at $1,899 to the MMT5X7G-DUG at $2,099. What you get is a zinc coating bonded through the steel rather than paint sitting on top of it, so scratches and chips do not start rust. If the trailer lives indoors and hauls dry material, plain steel is fine. If it sits outside, hauls wet material, or sees road salt, galvanized is the cheapest rust protection you will ever buy.

Which DK2 stump grinder should I choose?

There are two, and the gap between them is real. The OPG777 at $1,899 runs a 14HP Kohler with 9 carbide teeth and cuts 12 inches above grade. The OPG888E at $2,899 uses the same 14HP Kohler but adds electric start, 12 carbide teeth and 14 inches of above-grade reach. More teeth means each one takes a smaller bite, which is easier on the machine and gives a smoother cut in hardwood. If you are grinding a handful of stumps on a weekend, the OPG777 does it. If you are grinding regularly or dealing with large hardwood stumps, the OPG888E is the better tool.
