Brave

6 Products

Brave builds firewood and property equipment in two tiers, and knowing which one you are looking at is the whole trick. Standard Brave machines run Honda GC series engines, built for homeowner and seasonal use. BravePro machines run Honda GX commercial engines, built to be started every day for years. Same splitting force, different duty cycle.

The log splitters cover 24, 30 and 37 tons, all horizontal and vertical, all with a 3,500 PSI hydraulic system and 25-inch maximum log length. At 24 tons you get a 13-second cycle, and the 30 and 37-ton models run 14 seconds with more force behind the wedge.

Pick a GC model if you split your own firewood for the season. Pick a GX BravePro model if you split for customers, run a rental fleet, or simply want the engine with the commercial service network behind it. The price gap between the two is smaller than most buyers expect.

Beyond splitters, Brave makes the 14HP Kohler walk-behind stump grinder in our Stump Grinders collection, and a 60-inch BravePro finish cut pull-behind mower with a 25HP Honda V-twin and electric blade engagement.

Why Brave

  • Two Build Tiers: Brave for seasonal use, BravePro with commercial Honda GX power for daily work.
  • 24 to 37 Tons: Five splitters covering homeowner through commercial firewood production.
  • 3,500 PSI Systems: Consistent hydraulic pressure across the whole splitter range.
  • More Than Splitters: A 14HP stump grinder and a 60-inch finish mower round out the lineup.

How to Choose a Brave Log Splitter

Four things decide it:

  • GC or GX Engine: The single most important choice. GC is a fine homeowner engine. GX is the commercial one, and it is what you want if the machine earns money.
  • Tonnage: 24 tons handles most seasoned firewood. Step to 30 or 37 for green hardwood, knots and crotch wood.
  • Cycle Time: The 24-ton runs a 13-second cycle, the 30 and 37-ton models 14 seconds. Force costs a little speed.
  • Splitting Height: 28 inches on the 24-ton, 30 inches on the 30 and 37-ton, which matters if you work standing up all day.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Brave and BravePro?

BravePro is the commercial tier. Both lines build the same kinds of machine, but the Pro models use larger Honda GX series commercial engines where the standard Brave models use the GC series. Comparing the two 30-ton splitters makes it concrete: the Brave 30-ton runs a Honda GC190 at $2,659, and the BravePro 30-ton runs a Honda GX200 at $2,927. The GX is built for sustained commercial duty with a cast iron cylinder sleeve and a longer service life. If the machine runs all day, buy the Pro. If it runs a few weekends a year, the standard line is the better value.

Which Brave log splitter should I buy?

The range steps cleanly by tonnage and engine. The BravePro 24-ton on a Honda GX160 at $2,592 cycles in 13 seconds. The Brave 30-ton on a GC190 at $2,659 and the BravePro 30-ton on a GX200 at $2,927 both cycle in 14 seconds. At the top the BravePro 37-ton on a Honda GX270 at $3,142 also holds a 14-second cycle. All of them work horizontally and vertically, so you can roll heavy rounds against the wedge rather than lifting them onto a beam.

Why does the 37-ton splitter cycle at the same speed as the 24-ton?

Because Brave scales the pump with the cylinder. A bigger ram displaces more oil per stroke, and if you fit the same pump to it the cycle gets slower. Brave avoids that, so the 24-ton at 13 seconds and the 37-ton at 14 seconds are within a second of each other. What this means for you is that stepping up in tonnage costs you almost nothing in throughput. Buy the tonnage your wood needs rather than trading capacity against speed.

How much tonnage do I actually need?

More than most people think for green hardwood, and far less than most people buy for seasoned softwood. A 24-ton machine handles seasoned wood and most straight-grained hardwood rounds. Green oak, elm, sycamore and anything knotty is where the 30 and 37-ton machines earn their money, because those species can stall a smaller ram mid-split and leave you levering the piece off the wedge. If you are splitting mixed wood from your own land, 30 tons is the safe middle. Tell us the species and we will be more specific.

What else does Brave make besides log splitters?

Two machines worth knowing about. The Brave Stump Grinder at $2,091 runs a 14HP Kohler for heavy-duty stump removal, which makes it the one Brave machine in this collection not powered by a Honda. And the BravePro 60-inch finish cut pull-behind mower at $5,640 runs a 25HP Honda GXV630 and is built for large lawns and acreage, towed behind an ATV, UTV or tractor rather than driven.

Is a tow-behind finish mower right for my property?

It comes down to acreage and what the ground looks like. A 60-inch finish cut deck behind a tractor or UTV covers ground several times faster than a walk-behind or a small ride-on, which is why it makes sense above roughly two or three acres of maintained lawn. What it will not do is brush. A finish mower is built for grass you are keeping tidy, not for reclaiming a field. For that you want a brush cutter, which you will find in our brush cutters collection.
