For straight-grained hardwood — yes, typically 16–22 ton equivalent force, plenty for oak, maple, hickory up to 16" diameter. For knotty wood — kinetic has a weakness: if the wedge stalls in a knot, the flywheel doesn't stall like a hydraulic ram does. Strategy: split around major knots, work from the side, and use the back-stroke immediately to clear stuck wedges. For seriously knotty logs, hydraulic is more forgiving.
